Description: 

Led by SPAEDA associate consultant Sara Dudman, this training day will offer art and design teachers and heads of art the opportunity to develop confident and creative approaches to teaching the Key Stage 3 National Curriculum for art and design.

This course will help you understand art and design National Curriculum priorities, including teaching, opportunities, achievement and assessment. It will completely support you to plan and deliver an outstanding secondary art and design curriculum. It will:

  • Highlight priorities and expectations in the art and design curriculum and the implications and opportunities for your department
  • share ideas about developing an exciting and engaging art and design curriculum – look at opportunities and flexibility to bespoke your curriculum
  • Use proven techniques to adapt existing lesson plans and schemes of work to meet the curriculum requirements, including practical time to develop your new Key Stage 3 curriculum with support from an experienced advisor
  • Explain how to provide effective progression between key stages – providing the foundations for GCSE requirements and making a smooth transition from KS2 – and why this is important
  • Share tools and models for assessment, monitoring and planning for art and design
  • Foster understanding of the opportunities and potential for liberation in departmental and individual progression and creativity within the Key Stage 3 art and design curriculum.
