Eastover Primary School pupils enjoyed working with artist, Karen Hansen to create a beautiful new storytelling seat and benches for their school. 

 

As part of their school art week pupils at Eastover Primary school learnt new skills and had fun designing, carving and painting new story-time benches to create an outdoor classroom area at their school.

Eastover Primary School pupils of all ages, skilfully carved into 3 large benches, under the watchful eye of artist and furniture maker, Karen Hansen. The children were inspired by traditional fairy tales, carving their favourites into the benches surrounding a newly commissioned, storytelling chair, made by the artist.

Born in Copenhagen, Karen has lived in the South West of England since 1985, where she runs a successful workshop creating furniture and sculpture for private commissions and communities projects across Denmark and the UK. This is the second time SPAEDA have commissioned Karen who, last year, led children in printmaking and created a Totem pole for Eastover Primary School grounds from children’s designs.

 

At the unveiling of the commission, Eastover Primary School were delighted to have a visit from Bridgwater Mayor, Cllr. Tony Heywood and fellow Eastover ward Member Cllr. Burrows who saw the children creating their carvings first-hand.
