Inspiration, Planning and Team-Building – Whole School Staff Art CPD Day
Wow, what a great day ! It was a privilege to spend the first day of term (1st September 2016) with all teaching staff at Ilchester Primary School. What a way to kick off the new academic year: inspiring staff, creating relaxed opportunities for established staff to get to know new staff, fostering teamwork, sharing ideas and building practical skills and confidence, along with planning for the art curriculum!
This bespoke training day had clear priorities in response to staff needs, identified through questionnaires completed in the summer term:
• Learning a range of different art skills
• Skills to challenge the more able
• Knowledge of artists to study and reference in projects
The training was a mixture of practical workshops modelling skills and project ideas using air-hardening clay and making recycled bottle sculptures.
The activities inspired everyone, getting them feeling good about being back at school, leading into a short session exploring curriculum progression planning and resourcing in the light of the new National Curriculum. We can’t wait to see how they get on and the art the children make as a result of this training.
